JOHN STANFORD STUDENT WINS SECOND PLACE
IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
WOW! Emma Snavely (Fifth Grade Japanese) won a local contest, then took second place in a national creative writing competition put on by the American Immigration Council each year. Fifth grade students are asked to submit a creative writing entry in the theme of “Why I Am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants”. The contest is run nation-wide, with the top entry from each state submitted to AIC. The local competition was coordinated by the Washington Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and involved 84 entries from 4 local schools.

Summer Language Camps
Language Camp forms are now available for current students can be found HERE and in the main office. This year Language Camp is scheduled for June 25-29 between 9:00-12:00 (lunch is not provided). Cost is $100 per student.

Public comment periods will start at 5 p.m.
Japanese Language Classes
May 17-June 14 every Thursday from 6:15 to 7:15 PM – 5 classes.
Where: Room 406
Cost: $50.

This class will be especially helpful for adults going on the Japan trip this summer.
Volunteers Needed for Young Authors' Day
Young Authors Day is Wednesday, May 30th. Book sharing will be in small groups led by staff and parent volunteers. This will be from 2:15-3:05pm. We are in need of 20-25 parents to lead small groups. Please contact Ms. Lucy at laatkinson@seattleschools.org if you are able to help.

The Web Team Needs Volunteers!
Are you interested in volunteering, but can't be at the school physically? How about volunteering with the John Stanford International School Web Team?!? No previous experience in web design or programming necessary. All you need is internet access and an account with The Source.
