Seeking Worm Bin Volunteers
Unfortunately, we've been without a worm bin master this school year and haven't been as productive as we could have been. Might you have a green thumb and an interest in helping us get back on track?
We are looking to fulfill several critical needs:
- Preparing for and harvesting the compost historically we have sold compost at the May plant sale
- Leading the development of a long-term maintenance plan
- Educating the Green Team on worm bins: what, why, when, how
- Maintaining the worm bins through the summer
May is Bike to School Month
Keep track of the days you bike to school (or other activity if school is not feasible) and earn fabulous prizes.
Wednesday, May 7th is Bike to School Day and Saturday, May 10th is Bike Rodeo at the Plant Sale.
Keep an eye on the Bike to JSIS website for more information.
Fiesta Latina--Just say "Sí !"
Friday, May 9th 6:30-8:30 p.m., cafeteria/gym
Please join us for a JSIS school wide celebration of Latin culture. Just say "Sí" to live performances (professionals and students), to delicious food (tamales and empanadas), to student "passport" activities (cultural ambassadors, world cup mania, games) and to a $1 raffle with fun prizes to support our sister school in Puerto Vallarta. For a schedule of events, click here. Just say "Sí" to signing up for a volunteer shift on the day of the event here! We need your help to make this fun, community event happen. Vámonos!!!
Check the Science Fair page to see a slide show from the fun event!
See the Yard Sale Tour page for the list of host houses and contact information. Your donations are welcome!
We are still looking for 1-2 more host houses for the Yard Sale Tour on Saturday, May 17. Our next planning meeting is Monday, April 28 at 3:45 PM on the K playground.
*What makes our school so special?
We all have our own answer to that question.
Watch the video below to hear Ms. Dedy describe in her words
what makes our children, our community, our school so unique.

Visit the Annual Fund page to learn more about the Annual Fund, read frequently asked questions (FAQs) and choose how you want to donate.
Dear parents, after spring break, your child will come home with a Wally newspaper. If your child wants to submit an article for the next issue, they must submit it by May 5th. The contest for the next issue is a Jokes and Riddles contest. There is also an opening for a new Sports Editor!
Tips and Reminders:
- Your child should probably start writing their article over spring break (if they want to submit one for the next issue)
- The sections your child can write for are:
- School News
- E.P.I.K. (Extraordinary Projects Involving Kids)
-The Wally Staff
The first graders are having their annual plant sale to raise funds for our sister school Juan de la Barrera in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico!
The sale will be on Saturday, May 10th from 10-1 pm.
All of our seeds this year came from the Seed Savers Exchange which is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to conserving and promoting heirloom vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. Supporting our sale this year will not only help our sister school, but will also promote plant diversity.
Our plants are mostly organic and we have varieties chosen to do well in our climate.
We'll have LOTS of tomatoes and basil, cucumbers, and other veggies, flowers and houseplants including lots of beautiful orchids, perfect for Mother's Day!
One of the wonderful things we love about our sale is the number of people who donate plants from their garden to sell at the sale, so we'd love donations again this year! Just drop them off in the greenhouse on the second floor anytime before May 10th.
Please contact Miss Margretta at 252-6097 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to donate or help in anyway.
We hope we see you at the sale!!
