Sarah provided a brief history of the PLC goals
Per the district contract, staff develop, draft, and focus on a professional growth goal of their choice; JSIS staff have decided to work as learning communities and focus on the ethnic studies and biliteracy goals as outlined in the 2019-20 JSIS C-SIP
    Staff generated five PLC’s
Grades 1-3 ELA Team: Teachers will plan, investigate, integrate, and teach Ethnic Studies into the curriculum
Ethnic Studies PLC: Teach a unit using the Race and Equity self-reflection tool towards building more equitable teaching practices
Spanish Bi-Literacy PLC: Learn, develop and bridge the CCC units taught in Spanish language; revise and align 2-5 CCC units in order to roll out and implement biliteracy goals.
Japanese Biliteracy PLC: Work on the biliteracy roll out plan for grades 2-5 to implement this year; we will plan and develop lessons for literacy units for second through fifth grade
K/1 + Biliteracy: Teachers will develop one curriculum map per grade level with formal bridging lessons for each grade level; Formal lessons will be available to all staff; IA’s have a subset goal that will focus on biliteracy strategies in their literacy small group instruction
These are goals, each PLC cannot predict the exactitude of their goal accomplishment
These are teacher generated and do not require a vote from the BLT
Goals are in alignment with the CSIP and the district’s strategic plan; focusing on improved academic achievement.
